Biography

Ralph Murphy was a well-known director who worked on a variety of many great films. Murphy's early work in directing consisted of various films, including "The Big Shot" (1931), "Girl Without a Room" (1933) and "Song of the Eagle" (1933). He also appeared in "Partners in Crime" (1937) and "Top of the Town" (1937). He continued to work in film in the forties, directing motion pictures like "Las Vegas Nights" (1941), the Betty Rhodes musical "Salute For Three" (1943) and the musical comedy "Rainbow Island" (1944) with Dorothy Lamour. He also appeared in the horror flick "The Man in Half Moon Street" (1944) with Nils Asther and "The Town Went Wild" (1944). In addition to his directing, Murphy also appeared on-screen in the musical comedy "Star Spangled Rhythm" (1942) with Bing Crosby. Nearing the end of his career, Murphy directed the musical "Sunbonnet Sue" (1945) with Gale Storm, "Mickey" (1948) with Lois Butler and "The Lady and the Bandit" (1951). He also appeared in the Louis Hayward adventure "Captain Pirate" (1952). Murphy's music was most recently featured in "The Express" (2008) with Dennis Quaid. Murphy passed away in February 1967 at the age of 72.
