The name Kate McGregor-Stewart is not widely recognized as an actress, despite high-profile supporting roles in films such as "Father of the Bride" (1991) as the mother of the groom opposite star Steve Martin or in "The School of Rock" (2003) as one of Jack Black's fellow teachers. However, McGregor-Stewart had more of an effect on the acting world as a noted acting coach, working with big names like Lucy Lawless, James Gandolfini, and many more.

Born in New York City in 1944, McGregor-Stewart didn't burst onto the acting scene. She was out of the public eye for her first 30 years, which culminated in her graduation from Yale's School of Drama in 1974. From there, she began her acting career, with supporting roles in a variety of movies and TV shows, including the film adaptation of John Irving's best-selling novel "The World According to Garp" (1982). She gained notice in stage circles as one of the stars of Christopher Durang's Off-Broadway farce "Beyond Therapy." Her TV and film career continued to be filled with supporting roles in a variety of works, including "Father of the Bride," the hit sitcom "Murphy Brown" (CBS 1988-1998) and "The Addams Family" (1991). As the '90s began, she made the transition to becoming an acting coach, working with specific actors and actresses as well as serving as a consultant to a variety of studios. She actually served as a consultant on "Father of the Bride," a movie she co-starred in. In addition, she also coached the casts of "Boy Meets World" (ABC 1993-2000), "The King of Queens" (CBS 1998-2007) and many more TV shows and movies. She also worked in one-on-one sessions with a number of famous actors, including Nicole Kidman, Marisa Tomei, Tyrese Gibson, and Woody Harrelson. She returned to television with the recurring role of Mary on Shonda Rhimes' sudsy TV drama "Scandal" (ABC 2012- ).
