Mortimer's career beginnings included film roles in the drama "Hostage" (1982) with Kerry Mack, "The Pirate Movie" (1982) with Kristy McNichol and "The City's Edge" (1983). He then acted in "Something Is Out There" (1987-88), the Nique Needles comedy "Tender Hooks" (1988) and the drama "Ghosts of the Civil Dead" (1989) with Dave Field.
