Biography
Professional baseball player Mickey Mantle took his talents to a whole new ballpark: the star-studded world of entertainment. Mantle kickstarted his acting career in comedies like "Safe at Home" (1962) with Mickey Mantle and Roger Maris, "That Touch of Mink" (1962) and "It's My Turn" (1980) with Jill Clayburgh. He appeared in a number of television specials, including "Baseball's All-Star Comedy Classics '88" () and "Dick Clark's Good Ol' Days: From Bobby Sox to Bikinis" (1977-78). He worked in series television while getting his start in acting, including a part on "Life Matters" (1988-89). He also worked in television around this time, including a part on "Burt Wolf/ Eating Well" (1991-92). He appeared in a number of television specials, including "Richard Lewis: "I'm Doomed"" (1989-1990), "The Billy Martin Celebrity Roast" (1989-1990) and "There Really Is a Santa Claus" (1989-1990). He also appeared in "Joe DiMaggio: The Way It Was" (1990-91) and "Super Bloopers & New Practical Jokes (02/07/92)" (1991-92). Additionally, he appeared in a number of television specials, including "Diamonds on the Silver Screen" (1992-93), "Mickey Mantle: The American Dream Come to Life" (1992-93) and "American Coaches: Men of Vision and Victory" (1994-95). He added roles in "The Class of the 20th Century" (1991-92) and "Baseball" (1994-95) to his body of work around that time. Most recently, Mantle appeared in "The Stars and Stripes Show" ().
