Biography
Verne Lundquist is an American sportscaster who has also made several appearances as himself in motion pictures and video games. Soon after he graduated from Texas Lutheran University in 1962, he began working as a sports anchor in Dallas and Austin, Texas. He joined the Cowboys Radio Network as the official radio voice of the Dallas Cowboys football team in 1967. After sportscasting for the ABC network from 1974 to 1981, on their flagship sports program, he moved to CBS, where he stayed from 1982 to 1995. In 1995, he switched to the TNT network, remaining there until 1997, when he returned to CBS. In 1992, 1994, and 1998, he was an announcer, along with former Olympic gold medalist Scott Hamilton, for the Olympic figure skating competitions. He is also one of CBS's main announcers for the National Football League and college football games. In 1982 he appeared as a football announcer in the Dolly Parton comedy-musical "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas." He also made an appearance as a sports announcer in the Adam Sandler football-player-turned-golfer comedy "Happy Gilmore" in 1996, and he can be heard doing play-by-play in two "College Hoops" basketball video games.
