This former Canadian child star and teen heartthrob finally came into his own playing a radical Québécois separatist fighter in the film "La Maison du Pêcheur" (2013). Benoît Langlais was born in the Montreal suburb of Blainville, Quebec, on July 29, 1983. He started acting at the age of seven, appearing in the French-Canadian children's television series "Watatatow" (Radio-Canada 1991-2005) and continued to work in television until making his feature film debut in the Canadian film "Voices From a Locked Room" (1995).
Langlais made the jump from bit roles to full-fledged star when he appeared in the popular television series, "Two Brothers/ 2 Frères" (TVA 1999), a teen drama that revolved around drugs, violence and bullying. The role also earned him Best Actor at the MetroStar Awards in 2002. While Langlais built up a steady reputation in French Canadian television, it wasn't until he took on the role of Quebec Liberation Front member Jacques Rose in "La maison du pêcheur" that he caught the attention of an international audience.
The historical drama led by acclaimed Quebec film and TV director Alain Chartrand sheds light on the events that led to the "Front de Libération du Québec" (FLQ) cell kidnapping and murdering the Liberal minister Pierre Laporte, which came to be known as the "October Crisis" in 1970. The film hit particularly close to home for many French Canadians and required Langlais to do extensive research to do justice to both the character and history.
