1997

Received the 1997 Northern Arts Writer's Award; his play "A Rhyme for Orange" won the 1997 North East People's Play Award

1999

Premiered stage play "Bones" at Live Theatre in Newcastle; soon named Writer in Residence at Live Theatre

2006

Feature writing debut, "Sixty Six"; co-written with wife Bridget O'Connor

2007

Reteamed with O'Connor to write "Mrs. Ratcliffe's Revolution"

2008

Adapted Toby Young's memoir How to Lose Friends & Alienate People for the big screen

2009

Wrote screenplay for "The Men Who Stare at Goats" based on Jon Ronson's book

2011

With O'Connor, co-wrote screenplay for "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy" based on novel by John le Carré; film released after O'Connor died of cancer on Sept. 22, 2010
