Biography

While he looks younger than his actual age, Wesley Jonathan has already built a solid resume of film and television work. After landing his first role on an episode of the crime series "21 Jump Street" at only nine years old, he frequently appeared as a guest star or recurring character throughout the '90s, sharing the screen with African-American comedians like Rondell Sheridan and Thea Vidale (as well as a noticeably non-African-American one, Chris Elliott, in his sitcom "Get a Life"). This led to being cast in two sitcoms: "City Guys," which aired from 1997 to 2001, and "What I Like About You," from 2002 to 2006. In the former, Jonathan played main character Jamal Grant, an urban high school student who attempts to stay focused on education while dealing with various social issues. Meanwhile, in "What I Like About You," he played Gary Thorpe, the best friend of Amanda Bynes; although initially an awkward teen, he matured as the series progressed. Around this time, he also took on more dramatic television fare, and by 2005 scored his highest-profile film role yet, in the roller-skating film "Roll Bounce," in which he played the rival star Sweetness. Since then, he has starred in other movies with emphasis on sports and music.
