Biography

Welsh-born actor Richard Harrington is probably best known for his role as fair-minded surgeon Allan Woodcourt in the acclaimed 2005 BBC mini-series "Bleak House," a sumptuous production that starred a host of established screen veterans like Gillian Anderson and Charles Dance, as well as newcomers such as Carey Mulligan. The previous year, Harrington also had a small role in the historical television movie "Gunpowder, Treason & Plot," which focused on the reign of Mary, Queen of Scots and her son James I (as well as the Guy Fawkes terrorist plot). But Harrington is also comfortable in contemporary stories; his most notable role came as the ambitious yet compassionate Detective Sergeant Luke French on the BBC police procedural "Holby Blue," a spin-off from the popular medical show "Holby City," which is itself a spin-off from the flagship medical drama "Casualty." He has also appeared in the long-running British programs "Coronation Street" and "Spooks." Although television has proved to be his most lucrative medium, he regularly works in theater and has received the occasional feature film role. A notable starring role came opposite Martin Freeman in the 2007 black comedy "The All Together," playing an obnoxious co-worker.
