Biography

Although he's known mostly for directing concert videos, the Grammy Award-winning British director Hamish Hamilton is also an established director of awards shows. He began his career as a producer for the BBC in Scotland before being given the opportunity to direct the popular travel series "Rough Guide To The World." In 1992 he directed the British musician Mike Oldfield's music documentary, "Mike Oldfield: Tubular Bells II." His success with that film allowed him to direct several more concert documentaries in the years to follow, including 2000's "Beastie Boys: Live in Glasgow," "Spice Girls in Concert!," and "Madonna: Drowned World Tour 2001." Hamilton's flashy directing style eventually caught the attention of executives at MTV in London, who recruited him to direct several concerts and entertainment shows for the music network. He directed the "MTV Video Music Awards" and the "MTV Europe Music Awards," as well as concerts by the likes of Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, and the Rolling Stones. In 2010, Hamilton directed "The 82nd Annual Academy Awards" and the "Super Bowl XLIV Halftime Show," two of the most watched programs on television.
