Synopsis

Hal Weston arrives in Los Angeles looking for his former wife, Nora, who divorced him to marry his old partner, Petrie, now reportedly dead. Weston contacts Osgood, Petrie's former employee, and persuades him to help in the search. Also aiding in the quest is Li Sheng, daughter of Dr. Sheng, a surgeon, who tells Weston that Nora was a drug addict. Eventually Weston discovers that Nora was murdered by Petrie, who bribed Dr. Sheng into falsifying his death certificate and a mortuary assistant into placing her body in Petrie's coffin. Then Petrie collected his own insurance money by having a cohort, Janet Oberon, pose as Nora. When confronted by Weston, Petrie tries to escape by having Dr. Sheng perform plastic surgery to make him look like Osgood. Realizing that Petrie also plans to eliminate him, Osgood kills Petrie, only to die during a fight with Weston. The mystery solved, Weston returns to Li Sheng.
