Synopsis

Tex Wallace, an army scout, is guiding a wagon train across the plains when they pass three separate wagon trains in a state of ruin. The other wagons have been plundered and looted by the notorious Greer gang. The soldiers accompanying the wagons want to pursue Greer but have orders to accompany the train to town. That night, while Tex rides ahead, five soldiers led by Lane sneak out of camp to search for Greer. While they are gone, Greer attacks the camp and among those slain are Tex's brother Jim. For their dereliction of duty, Lane and the others are court-martialed and sentenced to prison. Tex, determined to capture Greer and avenge his brother's death, spreads the word that he will escort a large shipment of gold on the next stage. Lane, who has escaped from jail and is also looking for Greer, books passage on the stage, as does Joan Hale, whose father is the commander of the army post. As the coach begins its dangerous journey, Greer attacks and encircles the stage. Lane tries to get through to the army post but is wounded. After Lane is shot, Tex rides to the post, where he discovers that the soldiers are away fighting Indians. Desperate, Tex sees the deserters among the prisoners and releases them. After the deserters help Tex capture Greer and his gang and rescue the coach, they are reinstated for their heroism.

Notes

The working title of this picture was Under Western Stars. A Hollywood Reporter production chart lists Al Herman as director, but his participation in the final film has not been confirmed. Although copyright records and the Screen Achievements Bulletin credit John Foster with original story, Film Daily credits Robert Emmett. Similiarly, although the copyright records list Nelson McDowell's character as "Sandy," Variety names him "Rawhide." The film was partially filmed on location at Prescott, AZ. Modern sources add Hank Bell to the cast.
