Synopsis
Range Busters partners Crash Corrigan and Dusty King are rivals in the Tucson Rodeo. Crash wins the championship belt for the bronc buster competition, but, as a joke, Dusty impersonates Crash for a photographer, and his picture appears in the newspaper. When Crash and Dusty see a photograph of beautiful Maybelle Pembroke, who is just returning to her father's ranch from finishing school in the East, they convince their third partner, Alibi Terhune, a former ranch hand for the Pembrokes, to vacation there. Crash trades in his championship belt for a suit of East Coast-style clothing and, hoping to impress Maybelle, introduces himself to her as a writer named Grisold. Dusty, meanwhile, gets himself hired at the ranch by impersonating Crash. The two rivals for Maybelle's affection are unaware that she is in love with her neighbor, Grover Harrison, whose father has been feuding with hers since a dispute over a fence line resulted in a lawsuit. Since then, Pembroke's former ranch foreman has disappeared and ranch hand Dick Taggart has taken his place. After cattle begin disappearing from both herds, one of Pembroke's ranch hands is murdered by a cowboy whose horse looks like Grover's horse. Pembroke fires Taggart after he picks a fight with Grover. Taggart, who actually is the head of a gang of murderous rustlers who instigated the feud between the ranchers, then plots to kill Grover and plant suspicion on the Pembrokes. Newly arrived Alibi saves Grover from Taggart's gunmen, and Maybelle is delighted to be reunited with her "uncle" Alibi. After surmising the situation, Alibi convinces Pembroke that a third party is responsible for his trouble with the Harrisons. Taggart, meanwhile, has learned that Harrison has $5,000 in cash at his house and sends his cohorts, Buck and Tex, to create a distraction so that he can rob the safe. Maybelle's birthday party is interrupted by news that cowhands are breaking through the fence, and when Harrison and Pembroke arrive separately with their men, Buck and Tex provoke a gunfight between the ranchers. Dusty then notices that Buck and Tex have disappeared and calls a truce. Alibi and Crash, meanwhile, struggle at the Harrison ranch with Taggart, Buck and Tex. When Pembroke and Harrison arrive, the outlaws are arrested, and the friendship between the ranchers is restored.
