Synopsis

David Claveau, a jungle hunter in East Africa who captures wild animals for zoos, has an 8-year-old son, Beau, and together they capture a baby elephant to which the little boy becomes extremely attached. A friendly native chief, Kahli, warns David of imminent tribal warfare, and the hunter decides to send Beau and his governess, Rosa, an ex--circus performer who was wounded in an accident with a lion, to Nairobi, to sell his animal stock. Beau is so upset at the thought of being separated from his elephant, which he calls Taffy, that he runs away with the elephant and his pet chimpanzee, Margo. David and Rosa, assisted by Kahli, search for Beau in the jungle, and then separate. Rosa finds Beau as he is about to be attacked by a lion. She overcomes her fear of lions, fends off the animal, and saves the boy's life. Later, Taffy is flown to the United States along with David, Rosa, and Beau.
