Synopsis

Sent by the government to capture a gang of rustlers operating around Santa Fe, New Mexico, Rangers Tex and Ananias recognize the smuggler Hendricks and arrest him. When Hendricks discloses that he is traveling to Santa Fe to meet a man named Dorgan, Tex takes Hendricks' place and introduces himself to Dorgan as Hendricks' emissary. Just as Tex learns that Dorgan plans to smuggle cattle through the Graham ranch, Hendricks escapes from Ananias and Tex is forced to make a fast getaway. Introducing himself to Ruth Graham, the daughter of the rancher, Tex escorts her home, where the smugglers take Graham, Ruth and Tex captive. At the ranch, Tex learns from Hank, one of the guards, that Dorgan intends to blow up the canyon if he is prevented from bringing the cattle through the pass. Outwitting his guards, Tex escapes and, after sending Ananias for the Rangers, rides to stop Dorgan. Seeing that he can set off the dynamite charge and trap Dorgan and his gang in the canyon until the Rangers arrive, Tex races with one of Dorgan's men for the plunger. Tex gets there first and sets off the charge. When the Rangers arrive to arrest the gang, Tex goes to free, and Mr. Graham and the two ride back to the ranch.

Notes

According to a news item in Hollywood Reporter, John Rathmel was to have written the original story "Sundown on the Prairie," but his participation in the final film has not been confirmed. Although the copyright records credit Bob Terry in the role of "Chuck," Variety credits Frank Ellis in the role. Modern sources add Bud Osborne and Tex Ritter's horse "White Flash" to the cast.
