Synopsis
T. William Stone is the tough, ruthless owner of a saloon. He catches Fred Graves and R. J. Simmons forcing George J. Mason to sign a note that turns his mine claim over to them. Infuriated that they are cheating and taking advantage of a drunk man, Stone challenges them to another card game and wins back Mason's money and claim, then throws the gamblers out of the saloon. He then rouses Mason, who makes him partner in his mine after he returns all his money. Stone approaches Pastor Timothy Tucker, who refuses his one hundred dollar donation because he disapproves of Stone's sinful way of life. One day George and his daughter Martha invite Stone to join them at church. Stone agrees and then promises free drinks to anyone in his bar who attends church. They all relinquish their weapons and go. Graves and Simmons reclaim the guns Stone had previously confiscated and, believing him to be unarmed, try to hold him up after church. Stone is armed, however, and scares them off, realizing that the sermon must have had an effect on him as he refrained from killing them. After Mason tells the pastor how Stone saved him, the pastor convinces Martha to allow her father to accept new machinery from Stone to upgrade the mine. In the meantime, Stone's friend, Nancy, a dance hall girl, returns to him after hearing from her boss in the East that Stone misses her. The pastor overhears Graves and Simmons plotting to rob Stone's safe, and warns Stone, insisting that Stone allow him to try to use simple Christian persuasion to dissuade the robbers. Unfortunately, the pastor's sermon does not work, and Graves and Simmons shoot him after robbing the safe. Stone chases the fleeing robbers and is saved by the pastor, who shoots a man with a gun he had reluctantly bought to protect himself. Stone bests the other robber, who is arrested. The pastor admits his love for Martha, while Stone reunites with Nancy.

Notes
In onscreen credits Kernan Cripps's name is misspelled as "Kerman." Publicity records note that while some scenes were shot on location in Southern California, the Universal "back ranch" was used to film scenes of the town. A modern source includes Lew Meehan in the cast.
