Synopsis
Undercover Texas Rangers Jimmy and Tex are en route to the small western town of Buffalo Flats to investigate a group of corrupt vigilantes. On the way, they meet Doc Henderson and members of his traveling medicine show, who invite Jimmy to join their singing troupe. Later, Jimmy and Tex rescue local rancher Fred Brooks from angry vigilantes who have wrongfully accused him of rustling. Doc explains to Jimmy that following a string of robberies, a group of vigilantes was formed by banker Steve Crane to run the thieves out of town. The vigilantes began using nefarious methods after a young lawyer named Lance Bennett arrived, who, in order to steal area ranchlands, began falsely accusing local ranchers of rustling. Bennett also began courting Crane's daughter Sandra in order to maintain appearances with Crane. After Jimmy and Tex arrive in town, rancher Luke Forbes, the vigilantes' latest victim, returns to town to kill Crane for framing him as a horse rustler. While Doc promotes his panacea "wizard oil" to a crowd, Jimmy searches Bennett's office and finds evidence that he has been "land grabbing" in order to make a deal with a railroad company. Jimmy is nearly caught in the office by Bennett and his men, but escapes, and Doc deduces that he and Tex are Texas Rangers. While Jimmy questions local ranchers about the vigilantes, he catches Bennett's men trying to kill Forbes without Crane's orders, and rescues him. Jimmy then arrests three vigilantes who were trying to frame a rancher named Forrester, and is himself arrested by Bennett. Tex, however, rescues Jimmy in time for him to report Bennett's duplicity to Crane. Believing that Crane gave orders to have him killed, Forbes later tries to kill Crane, but Jimmy disarms him and reveals his Ranger badge. Jimmy and Tex next try to force Turner, one of the captured vigilantes, to name his leader, but he is shot dead before he can do so. While Jimmy is busy pursuing the assailant, an attempt is made on Crane's life, and Jimmy is later arrested for attempted murder. Although Sandra believes Jimmy is guilty, her father knows that Bennett ordered him shot. After Jimmy escapes from jail, he and Crane trap Bennett into confessing in front of the vigilantes. Bennett is arrested, and Jimmy says goodbye to Sandra before Doc's medicine show moves on.
