Synopsis

After the sheriff closes down Lasses White's variety show, Lasses goes to work for his old partner, Jimmy Wakely, in order to earn money to pay his debts. Jimmy hopes to sell some racehorses to wealthy California rancher Flora Carter. When a fight breaks out between rancher Matt Blake and Flora, Jimmy gets involved, not knowing the woman's identity, and winds up in jail. Later Jimmy learns that Blake and his granddaughter own the Mineral Springs Dude Ranch, which recently has been the target of harassment. First, some of Blake's cattle were stolen and then shots were fired at some of the ranch guests. The sheriff, who believes that Flora is behind the attacks, releases Jimmy and Lasses from jail so that they can investigate. On their way to the Blake ranch, Jimmy and Lasses intervene when gunmen shoot at a car carrying guests. Later, after he has spotted a herd of wild mustangs, Jimmy learns that Flora, who has been buying many ranches in the area, holds Blake's mortgage and will own his ranch if he forfeits. Jimmy and Lasses then sell their racehorses to Flora, and when they arrive at her ranch, they meet Colonel Stockton, who is there to buy horses for the army. Hoping to help the Blakes, Jimmy makes a bid on the contract and then challenges Flora to race her horses against the mustangs, which he will train. After her visitors leave, Flora orders her henchmen to stop a delivery of horse training equipment to the Blake ranch. Under her orders, the men kill the shopkeeper making the delivery. Despite Flora's efforts to stop him, Jimmy successfully trains the mustangs, but just before the race, the horses are stolen by Flora's men. Jimmy catches one of them in the act, but as the thief is about to reveal who is behind the crime, he is killed. When Jimmy fails to show at the appointed time, Flora asks that he be disqualified from the race. Jimmy arrives just in time, having rounded up the missing horses, and Stockton agrees to hold the race. Despite Flora's efforts, Jimmy's horses win the race, and Flora and her men are arrested for the shopkeeper's murder. Later, Stockton signs a contract with Blake for the horses, and his ranch is saved.
