Synopsis

At the Sundance railroad station, as the townsfolk eagerly await the arrival of Baron Rendor, Hoppy and his pals, Lucky Jenkins and Speedy McGinnis get into a fight with a gang of toughs in the baron's employ. The same train that is carrying the baron brings Sue Williard, who is dressed as a boy, into town. After Hoppy saves Sue from being swept beneath the train, she explains that she has come to visit Colonel White, the horse breeder, and Lucky and Speedy, who work for the colonel, escort her to the ranch. There, the colonel acknowledges that Sue is his niece, but later, when he learns that she is the sole heir to the ranch, he denounces her as an imposter. Meanwhile, the baron and his valet arrive at the White ranch to begin negotiations to purchase the colonel's herd of racing horses, and Hoppy, who has been hired to take the horses to auction, becomes suspicious of the baron. Hoppy's suspicions are confirmed when the baron tries to cheat him in a poker game. When Hoppy cleverly outsmarts the baron, the baron sends his men to rob Hoppy of his winnings. Afterward, after the baron offers the colonel the marked stolen money, Hoppy exposes him as a thief and orders him off the ranch. In the ensuing scuffle, the colonel suffers a heart attack and dies, and a letter found among his effects reveals that the ranch belongs to Sue, who asks Hoppy to drive the herd to auction. Sue's request makes Lucky jealous, and the baron plays on his jealousy to decoy him back to the ranch during the drive. In Lucky's absence, the baron and his men steal the horses, but Hoppy foils their attempt and finds the baron hiding in a camouflaged hay wagon. After a pounding chase, Hoppy and the marshal apprehend the rustlers, and the baron falls to his death as the wagon hurls over a cliff. With the threat of the baron eliminated, Sue decides to stay at the ranch and hires Lucky to run it for her.
