Synopsis
Popular Linda Hamilton, president of Alpha Beta Sorority at Conover College, is on trial for killing a motorcycle policeman. On the stand, former reporter Paul Reynolds describes some of the events that led up to the death: After Paul and Linda meet at a party, Linda, who craves excitement, begs Paul to take her to various gambling clubs. Aware that she is the daughter of District Attorney John Hamilton, who is trying to stamp out illegal gambling in the city, club owner Nick Vegas secretly takes pictures of her playing roulette and drinking. Back in court, after a doctor testifies that Linda believed that she was suffering from the same illness that killed her mother and had only a year to live, Linda takes the stand and testifies: One night, she goes alone to Whitey King's gambling club. Later, Paul arrives and fights with Whitey. The fight is interrupted by a police raid, and Linda is knocked unconscious when she tries to escape. When she comes to, Paul tells her that she was driving away from the club and killed a pursuing motorcycle policeman with her car. Linda later tries to tell her father what happened, but the secret head of the gambling ring has already sent him the photographs of her gambling activities and demanded that he leave office. When Hamilton learns that Linda was in the car that killed the policeman, he orders her arrested. After the defense attorney and the doctor assure Linda that she is not going to die, she remembers Paul and Whitey carrying her to the car. She then recalls that Paul was driving when the policeman was killed. Then Whitey is called to the stand. Angered by Paul's attempt to frame Linda, Whitey confirms her story and reveals that Paul is the head of the gambling organization. After Paul shoots at Whitey, he is killed while trying to escape. Linda is then acquitted.
