Synopsis

Nature photographer Gordon Eastman takes his family and a crew of filmmakers to northern Canada near the Arctic Circle to study the habits of timber wolves. The wolves, widely sought by bounty hunters, are among the vanishing species of animals in North America. Eastman and the crew capture three wolf cubs and raise them, eventually gaining the confidence and trust of the cubs. Red, a bounty hunter who shoots wolves from his airplane, loses control of his plane while trying to shoot one of Eastman's pet wolves and is killed. After the wolves are fully grown, Eastman sets them free. For a while, they hunt small game near the camp, but soon their instincts sharpen, and they kill a caribou. When they return to the camp area for the last time, they are completely wild and independent.
