Synopsis

Disguised as a gambler, United States Marshal Tim Donovan is a passenger on the Black Mountain stage when it is held up by a gang of outlaws led by Pete. Tim and his friend Tombstone pursue the bandits, overtaking them just as they are about to break open the strong box. As the gang flees, Sheriff Clay and his posse arrive and arrest Tim and Tombstone for the crime, but Judge Harper, a passenger on the stage, releases the pair after providing them with an alibi. After the outlaws blow up the relay station and steal the strong box, Tim joins forces with Harris, an insurance investigator, to bring the robbers to justice. Their investigation uncovers that the station agent Biff, and banker Emmett are in league with the outlaws. Meanwhile, Clay, still suspicious of Tim, gives him twenty-four hours to get out of town. Clay then rides to the relay station, where he captures Pete, Biff and Jim, another member of the gang. Realizing that the arrest of the three would spoil their plans to recover the money and implicate Emmett, Tim and Tombstone free them from the posse. Now convinced that Tim is a member of the gang, the sheriff offers a reward for his capture and obtains information that leads him to the gang's hideout. The sheriff arrives just in time to find that Tim has arrested Emmett and recovered all the stolen money, and after taking charge of the prisoners, the sheriff apologizes to Marshal Tim Donovan.
