Synopsis
When Bob Baxter's father is injured trying to capture cattle rustlers, Bob is made a ranger and assigned the task of delivering two of the captured rustlers to the Cheeko town jail. In Cheeko, Bob encounters Mary Clayton, his childhood friend, who owns a ranch near town with her brother Danny. Realizing that he will be unable to prevent a lynch mob from attacking the captured rustlers, Bob releases them with the intent of getting them later. Danny, one of the men released by Bob, unwittingly became part of Bert's gang of rustlers when he followed instructions given by Bert to move cattle that he claimed were his own. After engaging the rangers in a battle, Bob follows them to Mary's ranch, where he receives a gunshot wound while attempting to capture the rustlers. Soon after notorious criminal Nat the Bat, who is wanted for murder, joins Bert's gang, they convince Danny to flee with them by telling him that Bob believes that he is mixed up with them. When Bob receives a tip that Bert's men have fled to Fall City, he goes after them. Meanwhile, Danny and Nat overhear Bert's men planning to double-cross them and learn that Danny's money is being stored in a safe in Fall City. After witnessing Danny and Nat leaving a bank with the money from the safe, Bob arrests them. While Nat tries to convince Bob of Danny's innocence, one of Bert's spies tells Bert about the money taken from the safe and of Nat and Danny's capture. Bert goes in pursuit of Bob and when he finds him, a shootout ensues and Bat is shot. Bob then tells Danny to hide and rescues Nat, whom the rustlers believe has been killed. The wounded Nat is taken to a cabin, where Bob handcuffs him to Danny before leaving to find a doctor. In Cheeko, Mary secures Bob's permission to accompany him to see her brother, but on their way back to the cabin, Bert's men see them and trail them to the cabin, where the gang surrounds them. Bob frees Danny to shield Mary from the knowledge that her brother was suspected of being one of Bert's rustlers. Then the injured Bat captures the rustlers in time to turn them over to the sheriff's posse, which has just arrived on the scene, and Mary is returned the money that the rustlers got for selling her cattle.
