Synopsis

While Los Angeles "stick-up artist" Louie Constolos is wounded and caught by the police, his girl friend and accomplice, Molly Deshon, escapes to the harbor and stows away on a fishing boat owned by Lars "Chris" Christensen. When Chris later discovers Molly in his cabin, he insists that she be returned to shore until "Porky," his sea mate, reminds him that the police are looking for them in connection with a tavern brawl. Angered by Chris's inexplicable hostility toward her, Molly, who has told the captain nothing of her background, jumps overboard. Chris retrieves Molly but continues to treat her coldly. While docked in Los Angeles a few days later, Molly decorates the boat's mess and prepares an elaborate meal for Chris, Porky and Morgan Rock, an eccentric, old seaman. At first Chris pretends to be annoyed by Molly's effort, but later he proposes to her. After she accepts his proposal, Molly tries to confess her past to him, but he refuses to listen. A year later, Molly and Chris, now the parents of a baby boy, decide to give up the sea life and move to Oregon. At the same time, Louie escapes from prison and heads for the Los Angeles harbor in search of Molly. On the eve of the couple's departure for Oregon, Louie shows up on Chris's boat and, after learning of her marriage, denounces Molly as a traitor. Louie then steals Chris's gun and robs L. R. Jensen, the owner of a small fishing fleet who has just bought Chris's boat. During the robbery, Louie shoots and kills Jensen with Chris's gun, and when the police find the gun's holster near the crime scene and Jensen's money in Chris's pocket, they arrest him. To save her husband, Molly confesses her history with Louie and gives herself up to the police. Stunned by Molly's revelations, Chris condemns her as a calculating criminal. After Morgan arranges for Louie to be killed at sea and then found with Chris's gun, Chris is released from prison. Eventually Chris changes his mind about Molly and, to be near her, commits a crime. In prison, Chris meets briefly with Molly and, after asking her forgiveness, embraces her.
