Synopsis
On a remote tropical island in the Pacific called the "Port of Hate," Bo Chang, a young Chinese girl, works for Bob Randall and Don Cameron, Americans who have discovered a black pearl bed. While Don and Bob are on the mainland to arrange for men and machinery to mine the pearls, they are attacked at the local cafe by Hammond, Adams and several other men who are after their pearls. Later, Jerry Gale, an American woman on the island in the employ of an Oriental importer, calls to see Bob about the pearls and is invited to his hotel room for a drink. Bob leaves Jerry to speak to Don then, when he returns to his room, he finds Jerry searching his possessions. She pulls a gun on him, and when Bob falls dead, Jerry flees and takes refuge on the "Port of Hate" where she is befriended by Bo Chang, who hides her in Don's house. Meanwhile, on the mainland, Don tells the police that Jerry was the last person to see Bob alive, but is unable to give them a description of her because he has never met her. Returning to the island, Don is followed by Hammond and Adams, posing as detectives, who hope to find the location of the pearl beds. As Don begins to fall in love with Jerry, Hammond threatens to expose her as Bob's murderer unless she will cooperate with him to steal the pearls. Before Hammond can carry out his scheme, however, the police arrive with evidence that Hammond actually murdered Bob, and Hammond confesses that he shot Bob while hiding in his hotel room.

Notes
According to material contained in the file on the film in the MPAA/PCA Collection at the AMPAS Library, the film was originally to have taken place in a cabaret in which show girls were sold into matrimony. This idea was dropped after the Hays Office rejected the story because of its theme of white slavery.
