Synopsis
A German shepherd dog found wandering loose in a city, is provided as a potential candidate to the local police K-9 Corps, where reporter Terry Dayton eagerly watches the dog's instruction. Although initially considered too wild to adapt and named "Wolf," the hundred-pound, handsome dog is put through grueling education paces paired with officer Norm Edwards. Wolf succeeds in his training and the duo is sent to investigate the mysterious death of fellow officer Bert Dana in a warehouse fire. Unknown to the police, Dana was associated with corrupt lawyer Todd Wellman, who is involved with an arson gang perpetrating insurance fraud. When Edwards discovers too much about the gang and is held by Wellman and his cohorts, Wolf comes to his rescue and the ring is broken.

Notes
Credits and summary information for The Police Dog Story were taken from reviews. James Brown, who portrayed "Norm Edwards," was familiar to audiences as the co-star of the television series Rin-Tin-Tin, which aired on ABC from 1954-59. Lawrence Weatherwax, a member of the famed Weatherwax Hollywood dog training family, appeared in The Police Dog Story as "Wolf's" trainer. The Motion Picture Herald review mistakenly referred to Weatherwax as "Jack Weatherman." According to the Hollywood Reporter review, portions of the story were inspired by the true events of a wild dog roaming the Hollywood Hills. A June 1960 Hollywood Reporter news items adds Dick Wilson to the cast, but his appearance in the film has not been confirmed.
