Synopsis
Rancher Doug Redfern, a young man known for his innocent pranks, is in love with Joan Blackman, the sheriff's daughter. Joan's father wants her to marry wealthy banker Harvey Meline, but Joan prefers Doug. Outside a dance that Harvey is giving in Joan's honor, Doug sees Harvey talking to some men, who then try to hold up the bank but are stopped by Doug and his friends. Doug then goes to the dance uninvited, posing as a bandit. Because Harvey knows that Doug is suspicious of him, he tells his men to get rid of him, but Doug escapes, with the help of stranger Lucky Gosden. When Harvey's bank is later successfully robbed, Doug is arrested because he is seen fleeing town and because a bandana that Joan gave him is found on the scene. Although the evidence is all circumstantial, Doug is convicted and sentenced to twenty years in the penitentiary. Two months later, Doug returns to the ranch, paroled, just as Harvey's men are looking for a bag of gold coins missing from the robbery. Doug reveals that he hid the money in a beehive the day he was arrested. He then shoots one of Harvey's men in self-defense. Later that day, Doug gives Harvey until sundown to fight or run. Harvey hires Lucky to take his place, but Lucky turns out to be a state investigator sent to look into Harvey's illegal activities. Harvey is finally arrested for stealing from his own bank to cover losses he incurred while digging for oil, leaving Joan and Doug free to pursue their romance with her father's blessing.
