Outlaws of Texas

56m 1950

Brief Synopsis

While robbing the stage with Jeff Johnson (Tommy Farrell), outlaws Jordan (Terry Frost) and Wilkins (Zon Murray) kill the stage guard and leave Jeff unconscious on the trail, to be picked up by pursuing U.S. Marshals Tom Yeager (Whip Wilson) and "Hungry" Rogers. Posing as an outlaw, Tom is put in the same cell with Jeff, and, with Hungry's help, stages a jailbreak and takes Jeff with him on the latter's promise to lead him to an outlaw gang head by the supposedly-dead Bill Moore (Stanley Price). They find the gang led by Anne Moore (Phyllis Coates), who passes on the instructions of her infamous father. Wilkins, after an unsuccessful attempt to ambush Tom, is taken to jail where the gabby sheriff informs him of the two marshal's true identities. Tom and Anne take the loot from a staged-bank robbery to Moore, where Tom arrests him and Anne and declares that Moore is an imposter. Meanwhile, Jordan visits Wilkins in jail and learns about Tom being a lawman, and sets a trap for him.

Synopsis

In Texas, bandits Wilkins, Jordan and young Jeff Johnson rob a stage and escape with U.S. Marshals Tom Yaeger and Hungry on their trail. After escaping, Wilkins verbally attacks Jeff, who has a crush on their boss's daughter, Anne Moore. Tom and Hungry soon catch up to them, and just before the thieves spread out in three directions, Wilkins cuts Jeff's stirrups, causing him to fall off his horse and get caught. Once he is in jail, Jeff refuses to talk, so Tom devises a plan whereby he and Hungry will be jailed as thieves and befriend Jeff. Tom stages an escape from the cell next to Jeff's, and Jeff promises to bring him to his gang's hideout if Tom takes him along. Jeff then brings Tom and Hungry to the hideout and introduces them to Anne, who explains that she passes orders down from her infamous rustler father Bill, and her fellow henchmen Wilkins, Jordan and Bilson. After Tom proves his mettle and piques Anne's romantic interest by beating up Wilkins in defense of Jeff, the marshals are included in the plans for a bank robbery. The next day, Tom tips off the sheriff about the robbery before participating in it. Just after the robbery, Wilkins tries to shoot Tom in the back, but Hungry sees him and shoots Wilkins instead. When he falls, wounded, the sheriff arrests him. In the jailhouse, the sheriff inadvertently reveals to Wilkins that Tom and Hungry are really marshals. Back at the hideout, Anne lets Tom accompany her on her way to meet her father and give him the stolen money, while Jordan devises a scheme to pose as a lawyer and release Wilkins from jail. Anne and Tom ride to an appointed spot and, as they wait for her father, they discuss what it would take to make her give up crime. A man appears whom Anne claims is her father but, knowing that Bill Moore has been dead for three years, Tom arrests them both. He brings them to the sheriff and asks for an escort back to the hideout. Jordan, meanwhile, has been posing as lawyer Atkinson, and learned from the sheriff that Tom and Hungry are marshals. When he arrives back to the hideout, Jordan pulls his gun on Hungry and is about to shoot him when Tom returns and tells him the sheriff and his deputies are outside. Jordan agrees not to shoot the marshals if the sheriff will let them get away, but once they are out of sight of the lawmen, he attempts to kill Tom and Hungry. Jeff helps the marshals escape but is shot in the arm just as the sheriff arrives. Tom catches the fleeing Jordan and knocks him out. Tom and Hungry then hand Jordan over to the sheriff and return to their ranch, hoping that at least Jeff and Anne will soon be reformed.
