Brief Synopsis

The government assigns calvary captain Bob Bradley (Bob Baker) to an area where pony express riders are being killed by arrows and their mail is being rifled. Synopsis

In 1860, Captain Bob Bradley of the United States Cavalry, is sent on an undercover assignment with his sidekick, Andy Sharpe, to find out why Pony Express riders on the California/Nevada route are being killed but not robbed. In Placita, California, at the United States Land Office, Spanish land grants are being recorded and then the applications are sent via Pony Express to Washington, D.C. After being hired to pose as Pony Express riders, Andy and Bob head out to the Ricardo ranch to purchase more horses for the Express. While there, Bob falls in love with Don Ricardo's beautiful and spirited daughter Lorita. When Ricardo's neighbor and friend, Don Diego, is killed after filing a grant, and outlaw ranchers then claim his land as their own by presenting a signed land grant application, Bob realizes a connection exists between the Express killings and the Spanish land grants. Andy overhears the outlaws plot to take over all of the ranching area by killing Express riders and stealing the land grants. Andy forewarns Don Ricardo, the outlaws' next intended victim, and as predicted, finds Bob on the trail with the dead body of the Express agent. This time, however, it is clear that Don Ricardo's land grant has been stolen. Realizing that Don Ricardo is in danger, Bob forms a posse from the Express riders and rides to the Ricardo ranch, which is under siege. Although many are killed, the posse arrives in time to save Ricardo and his daughter, and eradicate the thieving outlaws. With the murderers caught, the Pony Express and Don Ricardo's ranch are restored to peace, and Bob and Andy decide to quit the cavalry so they can live the California ranch lifestyle.
