Synopsis

Steve Norman, Ted Thorp and Walt Dorn are all partners in a gold mine. After Dorn is killed and attempts are made on Thorp's life, Steve is charged with the crimes because Dorn's daughter Ruth claims to have seen him fire the shot. Steve evades the sheriff and, dressed as masked crusader The Durango Kid, enlists the help of photographer Smiley Burnette. Suspecting gunman Dayton of having ambushed Dorn, The Durango Kid asks Smiley to send his picture to the U.S. Marshal, who discloses that Dayton is a wanted murderer. Meanwhile, Steve is arrested, tried hastily by a coroner's jury and is about to be hanged when Smiley helps him escape. Disguised as The Durango Kid, Steve then proves that town physician Andrew Vaning's medical certificate is a forgery and accuses him of hiring Dayton to kill the partners. Vaning had planned to marry Ruth after the other partners were eliminated and thus take control of the mine. Dayton is captured, and Vaning dies during an attempted escape by stagecoach.
