Synopsis

Morgan, a handsome gentleman who works the Mississippi riverboats, wins a large sum of money, entrusted to Junius Blackburn, in a poker game; and while Blackburn retires to his cabin, his daughter, Lucy, shows Morgan a locket that she will give only to the man she loves. Suzette, consumed with jealousy, denounces Morgan to Lucy, saying he took her father's money; and after preventing her father's suicide, Lucy demands that Morgan return the winnings, but he refuses. Morgan gives her the chance, however, to win back the money in a card game or lose herself to him, and in desperation she agrees. He pretends to lose, but Lucy, finding that he held the winning hand, sends the locket to him via a Negro servant.

Trivia

Joseph Schildkraut was (improbably) cast as a Southern gambler in this film to capitalize on his equally improbable casting as Gaylord Ravenal in the part-talkie version of Show Boat (1929). Actor Otis Harlan, who portrayed Captain Andy in the 1929 "Show Boat", was reunited with Schildkraut for this film.
