Synopsis
Joe Palooka, champion prizefighter, is scheduled for a benefit match when his manager, Knobby Walsh, abruptly withdraws him from the fight. Knobby has received a letter from Greg Tanner and his girl Millie, threatening Anne Howe, Joe's sweetheart, in an attempt to lower the odds on Joe's next title fight. To maintain Joe's champion reputation, Knobby takes him on a cross-country boxing tour accompanied by Tommy Malone, the younger brother of Joe's war buddy, George. Although Tanner and his gang set up a sure win competitor for Joe on tour, the champ triumphs, causing a furious Tanner to lose his bets. For Tommy's birthday, Joe and Anne plan a surprise party to coincide with George's homecoming from overseas. George's plane turns up missing, however, delaying Joe and Anne, who miss Tommy's party altogether. Angered over their unexplained absence, Tommy takes up with Tanner and agrees to be part of a phony kidnapping scheme to shake up Joe in his next bout. Later Tommy discovers George is safe and realizes that his brother's return was Joe and Anne's surprise. Tommy flees from Tanner and shows up at the arena in time for Joe's next fight, and his arrival spurs the champ on to victory.
