Synopsis
Tony Gunther, an American merchant seaman, decides to leave his ship when it docks in Sydney, Australia, and he is given a farewell party on the wharf. The party ends in a brawl in which a sailor named Swede is thrown overboard and Tony is knocked unconscious with a bottle. Tony awakens in the apartment of mysterious Laura Ring, who tells him that he is a suspect in Swede's murder. Laura offers him shelter in return for his help in stealing a valuable silver chalice from the Museum of Medieval Studies, and he reluctantly agrees. He removes a stained glass window to gain access to the museum, but he is unable to find the treasure. Meanwhile, Laura drives off, leaving him to escape alone. Eventually, Tony learns that Swede is alive, and that Laura's true purpose was to steal the window. He follows her to Melbourne with the police trailing close behind and learns her whereabouts with the help of a female insurance agent, J. P. Duncan, and a friendly fence, Benji. Laura hopes to sell the window to industrialist Orville Benton, who keeps valuable stolen art objects in his granary. In his efforts to retrieve the treasure, Tony is forced to confront Benton and his thugs. Meanwhile, Laura greedily attempts to take possession of Benton's collection, and she is buried beneath tons of grain. The stolen property returned, J. P. and Tony are married.
