Synopsis
Steve Bennett, a daredevil stunt pilot, not only faces death daily, but has the nerve to tell Laura Marley, the tempermental star of the picture on which he is working, to shut up. Steve's admonition results in a whirlwind romance, which culminates when the stunt man and star are married. Soon after the ceremony, however, Laura becomes hysterical over her husband's safety, and convinces Steve to give up his profession. When Steve has difficulty finding a regular job, Laura wangles him a job as an actor. In a scene in which Steve is supposed to drive over a pier, the studio engages stunt driver Tommy Briggs, an inexperienced youth who is a friend of Steve, to perform the stunt. Steve tries to convince the producer, Walter Blake, to let him perform his own stunt, but Blake refuses, and the boy is killed. Consumed by guilt, Steve leaves Laura to go barnstorming around the country. When Laura's acting begins to suffer as a result of Steve's absence, Blake tries to bring Steve back by manufacturing a romance between Laura and Steve's friend, Red Garvey. Learning of the romance after his eyes are injured in a crack-up, Steve returns to take a job at an aviation school. When he hears that Red is scheduled to perform an unusually dangerous stunt, Steve, believing that Laura loves Red, takes his place to save Laura from anguish. While performing the stunt, Steve crashes and is pulled from his plane to find Laura at his side.
