Synopsis

Lady Helen Haden, an Englishwoman married to a boor, falls in love with Ned Thayer, an American. The discovery that Thayer has cheated at cards leads to blackmail and an ugly divorce for Lady Haden. She goes to America alone and pawns her jewels to survive there. When wealthy American Rudolph Solomon proposes, Lady Haden accepts, although she still loves Thayer. Solomon steps aside for Thayer, his employee, when Lady Haden learns that Thayer's sister, Mrs. Leslie, not he, cheated at cards.
