Synopsis
Germain lives in the French village where he was born. The semi-literate, middle-aged man lives in a trailer on his mother's front lawn and is the ultimate underachiever. But in spite of ridicule from his friends and his unhealthy relationship with his mother, he does not complain about his life and enjoys taking care of his vegetable patch, carving wooden figurines, and feeding the pigeons in the park. At the park, he meets Margueritte, a kind old woman who loves literature. Germain begins to meet regularly with Margueritte and she reads the great French novels to him. Eventually, her enthusiasm for life and books give Germain a new lease on life and the courage to change his circumstances.
