Synopsis

In a candid confessional told from his point of view, television producer Barney Panofsky recounts the events that led to the death of his long-time friend, Boogie. This is prompted by the fact that there were suspicions about his role in Boogie's death, and a book on the case by the investigating detective has just been published. So Barney relates his life history: his first marriage to free-spirited Clara and their bohemian life in Rome, his second marriage to a motor-mouthed Jewish Princess, and how he met his third wife Miriam at his second wedding. As Barney tells his version of his long, colorful life, we see that he is capable of acts of gallantry, generosity, and goodness, and is a true romantic and an unlikely hero.
