Synopsis

Government agent Tim Brandon goes to Silver City to investigate the mysterious disappearances of three stagecoaches and their gold shipments. Tim poses as the notorious Tolusa Kid, on whom the robberies have been pinned by the gang's leaders: stagecoach line managers Frank Ewing and Sam Kennelly and bank manager Carter. Tim comes to town just as wanted notices for the Kid are being posted, and the deputy sheriff's posse chases him. Kennelly helps Tim escape, after which Tim and the sheriff confer and decide that Kennelly must be involved with the robberies. The sheriff pretends that he has captured Tim and takes him to jail. Ewing and Kennelly plot to free Tim so that he will be held accountable for their future crimes, while the town citizens demand that he be hung immediately. Kennelly's men free Tim just as the people are storming the jail, and they take him to hide at Kennelly's relay station. Tim tells Kennelly that he wants in on the robberies, then fights with Rawhide, one of the gang, to cover up when Rawhide recognizes him. Rawhide nonetheless informs Kennelly of his suspicions, and Kennelly tells him he can do away with Tim later if he wishes. Soon after, stagecoach line worker Linda Marly, who met Tim on his way into town, visits Kennelly's station to inform him of an upcoming stage that will be escorted by the sheriff. Tim alerts her to Kennelly's involvement with the gang and tells her to get the sheriff. She rides to town, but when she cannot find the sheriff, she unwittingly passes on Tim's message to Ewing, who assures her that he will take care of it. Ewing finds Kennelly and tells him that Tim is a government man, and the gang goes to rob the stage. During the commotion, Rawhide shoots and wounds Tim and, believing him to be dead, rejoins the gang. Tim sees them kill the driver and passengers, then follows them as they take the strongbox to their hideout. The gang plans on hiding the gold in Carter's bank, then leaving the country when things quiet down. Tim finds Linda, and after learning that Ewing must be involved as he is the only one Linda alerted, he goes to find the sheriff. In town, Ewing orders the nervous Carter to go along with the plans, while the posse, led by the unsuspecting deputy sheriff, once again chases Tim. Tim escapes, and after besting Rawhide in a fistfight, frees Linda, who had been captured by Kennelly and Ewing when she revealed her knowledge of their illegal activities. Tim's horse "Cyclone" brings the sheriff and his men to the rescue as Tim battles with the gang, and Tim apprehends Ewing while the sheriff catches the others. Soon after, the gang has been put behind bars, and Tim and Linda make plans to meet in the future.
