Synopsis
Police officer Jim Trent is framed by Louis Cantor, the leader of a gang, and is made to appear drunk while the gang robs a warehouse. Jim is brought up on charges and is reprimanded, but because of his good record, he is transferred to a lesser position, not fired. Later, the police commissioner informs Jim that he was framed by Cantor and secretly arranges a plan whereby Jim can obtain incriminating evidence against the gangster. To that end, the commissioner arranges for Jim to go to a resort owned by Cantor and pretend to be drunk and confrontational just when the place is to be raided. Although Jim's girl friend, Molly Malone, and her friend, Turner Bates, a detective, unwittingly try to stop Jim from being caught in the raid, Jim succeeds in his ruse and is sent to jail and dismissed from the force for slugging a superior officer. Still unaware of Jim's undercover assignment, Turner keeps track of his whereabouts after he is released from jail and warns him to stay away from Molly. Cantor, meanwhile, becomes determined to do away with the meddling Turner, who has been dogging him for years. Cantor arranges for Jim to be fired from every job he acquires and then, convinced of his disaffection from the police, proposes that they join forces against Turner. After agreeing to Cantor's plan, Jim is visited by Molly, who finally deduces his undercover scheme. Eventually, with Molly's help, Jim locates a little black book that contains the evidence he needs to indict Cantor and is reinstated on the police force.
