Synopsis
Deciding to produce a play on a shoestring budget, Broadway promoter Nickie North converts the barn on farmer Tom Bingham's land into a straw hat theater. The financial backer of the show insists that temperamental star, Clarice Sheldon, be cast in the play, so that he can leave town to be secretly married without any harassment from Clarice, his old flame. As rehearsals begin, the farmer's klutzy daughter Patience begins to fall in love with leading man Dennis Crane. As the curtain is about to go up on the opening performance, Clarice learns of her erstwhile lover's marriage and walks out on Nickie. Patience, who has been helping Dennis with his lines, steps into the starring role and scores a smash hit with her singing and dancing. After their show runs on Broadway, Patience and Dennis marry, and Nickie finds a backer for another play.
