Synopsis

Wayward nephew Wylie's rendezvous with Poor Dear is interrupted by the appearance of Kassia Lancaster, his Aunt Danny's cosmetologist and confidante. Kassia informs the young man that Aunt Danny, dying of emphysema, is by day confined to a wheelchair, by night to an oxygen tent. Despite her condition, Aunt Danny has sequestered in her home a colony of cats, the heirs to her fortune. The cosmetologist suggests that Wylie, still uppermost in his aunt's affections, return home, displace the cats, and kill the old lady. Wylie's return is regarded with suspicion by his brother Luke, Aunt Danny's devoted attendant. The animals are removed from the house because of his ailurophobia, and Wylie is reinstated as sole heir. On the evening of the proposed murder the cats mysteriously reappear, causing the heir to faint. Beside his body Kassia and Luke reveal their liaison and discuss their plan to murder both nephew and aunt. Disconcerted by the cat colony, however, Kassia falls from a ladder and dies. Luke discovers Aunt Danny in a room where Wylie has placed her for safekeeping. As Luke and Aunt Danny confer, the composed Wylie enters and announces his departure.
