Synopsis

Professor Wyndham, the head of an American archaelogical expedition in Cairo, is ready to sail for home after successfully uncovering the seven jewels of the seventh pharoah when he grants his assistants, Dennis Martin and Jerry Jones, a brief holiday in the ancient city. The professor's discovery prompts Abadi, a wily merchant and leader of a gang of thieves known as the "Secret Defenders," to plot to steal the jewels and sell them to Baron Stephens, a wealthy Swedish antique collector. Dennis sees Ellen, the baron's niece, in a Cairo marketplace and becomes infatuated with her. After some reluctance on her part, Dennis convinces Ellen to go to a nightclub with him and is shocked when she mentions that her uncle has come to Cairo in order to purchase the jewels. Returning to their hotel the next morning, Dennis and Jerry discover that the professor has been murdered and the jewels are missing, having been replaced by fakes. Accompanied by police inspector Joachim, the pair search for the baron and Ellen, but both the nightclub and hotel's employees deny even knowing Dennis and Jerry, let alone having heard of or seen the two missing Swedes. Later, Ahmed, a waiter at the nightclub, is arrested while trying to cash one of the baron's bank drafts. Ahmed is killed while trying to escape in Joachim's car, which explodes when a bomb planted by Abadi and intended for the police inspector goes off. A cigarette case found in Ahmed's pocket, however, contains a map of Cairo's underground aquaduct system that the Seven Defenders have been using as their hideout. Realizing that his old friend, Abadi, is the gang's mastermind, Joachim enlists the aid of Shari, Abadi's wife and his secret lover. That night, she conceals Dennis in a mummy case in her husband's store, and Jerry and Joachim follow the tracks of Dennis' case to the secret passageway in Abadi's store, leading them into the gang's hideout, where the baron and Ellen are imprisoned. Abadi tries to escape, but is shot and killed by Joachim. Later, Shari agrees to marry Joachim while the baron and Ellen set sail for America with Dennis.
