Synopsis

When Tex Rockett, sheriff of Sundown, quarantines all the cattle in the valley because of hoof and mouth disease, the ranchers defy his orders. Plagued by a merciless drought and threatened by foreclosure by banker Cylus Cuttler, their only chance is to send their cattle to market. Hence, Steve Davis herds his cattle to the railroad station, where he is arrested by Tex and his deputy, Gloomy Day. Egged on by Cuttler's son Nick, the ranchers storm the jail to free Steve, and Nick promises Steve's sister Bee that he will stack the jury in her brother's favor. Still determined to stir up trouble, Nick breaks Steve out of jail and advises him to kill Tex. Meanwhile, Bret Stockton, a government agent, comes to check conditions in Sundown Valley, and he and Tex discover Nick and his men treating some cattle in a mysterious manner. The next day at the trial, Tex accuses Cylus of keeping government aid from the ranchers of Sundown Valley and of treating the cattle with acid to generate false symptoms of hoof and mouth disease. Tex's expose destroys Cylus' scheme to gain control of the valley, and the angry banker tries to shoot Tex, but Gloomy wounds Cylus first. In the ensuing battle, Tex captures Nick and the rest of the outlaws, and Steve realizes that he has been duped by Nick.
