Synopsis

When Dusty Nelson, the kindly old handyman at the Bar B dude ranch, learns that his daughter Susan is coming to visit him, he confides his predicament to his friends, the Hoosier Hot Shots, entertainers at the ranch. Susan, who is attending college in New York and is engaged to Jerome Winston, the son of a prominent society family, believes that her father owns the ranch. To spare Dusty the humiliation of revealing the truth to his daughter, the Hot Shots convince him to pose as the ranch owner and offer to enlist all the ranch employees in their deception. Curt Durant, the assistant manager, is at first hesitant to become involved, but changes his mind upon meeting Susan. When Curt learns that Jim Peters, the true owner of the ranch, is coming, Curt, his sidekick, Big Boy Stover, and the Hot Shots don masks, kidnap Peters and lock him in a shack. Susan and Curt fall in love, and on the day before she plans to leave, Susan begins to regret her decision to marry Jerry. Peters escapes from the shack, but Curt convinces him that a gang of mean gunslingers are out to get him and persuades him to shave off his distinctive bear moustache and disguise himself as an Indian. Curt then notifies the sheriff that a lunatic is posing as Peters, and the sheriff jails Peters. As Jerry and Susan prepare to depart, Jerry receives a telegram from his parents, directing him to remain at the ranch until they can join him. On the day that the snobbish Winstons arrive, Peters escapes from jail. When the sheriff recaptures him, Peters finally convinces the lawman that he is telling the truth, and they drive back to the ranch, where the sheriff threatens to jail Curt for lying to him. To save his friend, Dusty admits that he is merely a handyman, causing the mortified Winstons to insist that Jerry break his engagement to Susan. When Jerry refuses, Susan, who is now in love with Curt, returns his engagement ring. Peters then forgives Curt and all ends happily as Curt proposes to Susan.
