Synopsis

U.S. Marshals Cheyenne Davis and his partner, Fuzzy, arrive in Rock Creek, Arizona, with an assignment to take a vacation at El Lobos Ranch, which is owned by Steve Lobos, a friend of Fuzzy. When they arrive, however, they find that the ranch is being run by Wayne Dawson and his foreman, Buck McCord. Dawson claims that he is Lobos' nephew and inherited the ranch after Lobos' recent death. Cheyenne and Fuzzy soon learn from saloon proprietor Fay Wilkins that Dawson killed a stranger in her saloon and swore her to secrecy upon threat of death. After they are hired as cowhands by Dawson, Cheyenne and Fuzzy break into the El Lobos ranch house, where Fuzzy finds Lobos' will, listing Dawson and his younger brother Matt as heirs. Later, Cheyenne intercepts a letter from a Denver lawyer stating that Matt has just died and will not be joining his brother Wayne at the ranch. Cheyenne replaces the letter with a note announcing that Matt will be arriving at the ranch the next day, and hires Delhaven, a friend of Fay, to pose as Matt. Despite Dawson and McCord's efforts to waylay him, Delhaven makes it safely to the ranch. Cheyenne now believes that the man who was murdered in the saloon was the real Wayne Dawson and orders Delhaven to force Dawson to prove his identity by mentioning a belt buckle that Wayne and Matt received from their father. Cheyenne hopes Dawson will dig up Wayne's corpse in order to retrieve the belt buckle, but Fuzzy drops the letter announcing Matt's death, and McCord tells Dawson that Delhaven is a fake. Dawson and McCord then lure Fay to a ranch cabin, and Dawson begins digging outside to trap Cheyenne, but Cheyenne holds up Dawson. A gunfight ensues, during which the sheriff shoots McCord and rescues Fay, and Cheyenne arrests Dawson. Later, Fay decides to buy El Lobos Ranch, while Cheyenne and Fuzzy turn down the sheriff's offer to remain in Rock Creek.
