Synopsis

Determined to earn an honest living, the Cheyenne Kid swears off gambling for a job as foreman at the Roberts ranch, thus earning the enmity of Davis, who was next in line for the job. Davis is given his opportunity for revenge when he is hired by gambler Jeff Baker to insure that the Kid never delivers the thousand dollars that Roberts has given him to buy a herd of cattle from Ruth Adams and her brother Chet. Chet owes Baker a large gambling debt, and Baker, who has designs on Chet's Lazy A Ranch, wants to make sure that he is unable to pay it. To prevent the Kid from buying the Lazy A cattle, Baker tries to get him to bet the cattle money on the roulette wheel, but when the Kid will wager only ten dollars, Baker raises his winnings up to $1,000 and then makes sure he loses the entire sum. Having failed to divert the Kid, Baker sends Davis and Carson to stop the sale, but they arrive too late and decide to kill Chet and steal the proceeds from the cattle sale. When Baker accuses the Kid of killing Chet to cover his gambling losses, Farnum, a friend of the Kid's, tricks Baker into saying that the Kid paid his debt in fifty dollar bills, although Farnum knows that the cattle were paid for in one hundred dollar bills. As the Kid languishes in jail, his friend Manuel rides into town and helps him escape. They then follow Baker to Carson's shack, where they hear the trio discussing Chet's murder. A fight ensues, and the sheriff, drawn by the sound of gunfire, arrives with his posse. The Kid then produces the stolen one hundred dollar bills, thus proving his innocence, and the sheriff arrests Baker and his gang.
