Synopsis
U.S. marshal Bob Foster and his partner, Jake Jones, are assigned to investigate a gang of white outlaws operating near Canyon City, who pay their Indian henchmen with whiskey. When Canyon City's Judge Harrison returns to his ranch, his daughter Mary Lou and their Indian ranch hand, Gray Eagle, greet him. Nearby, Bob and Jake see one of the gang's braves, Longknife, spying on Mary Lou and Gray Eagle from the bushes. After a struggle, Longknife pretends to be knocked unconscious, and Bob and Jake decide to return for him later. As soon as they leave, however, Longknife escapes and goes into town. After telling crooked sheriff Joe Conger that he was attacked by two men, Longknife agrees to go to the gang's hideout with one of his braves, in exchange for some whiskey. At the Harrison ranch, Bob, Jake and Mary Lou listen as Gray Eagle tells them that he would like to help them fight the "bad" Indians. Later, Gray Eagle declares that Longknife is spying on his own people, so they decide to trap him. That evening, while Bob and Jake are pretending to be asleep in their bunkhouse, Longknife and an outlaw named Smokey sneak inside. Bob and Jake suddenly begin fighting with them, and Longknife escapes, but Smokey is shot in the arm while fleeing. After Harrison and Mary Lou come downstairs to see what has happened, Sheriff Conger and Deputy Marshal Jones arrive, and Harrison introduces them to Bob and Jake. At the hideout, the sheriff sends Longknife and another outlaw named Kansas to kill Gray Eagle and kidnap Mary Lou. When Bob, Jake and Harrison return to the ranch and realize what has happened, Harrison fetches the sheriff, and Bob and Jake find Mary Lou. After they return to the ranch, Mary Lou, Jake and Harrison tell the sheriff that Bob has been killed. After Jake insists on accompanying the sheriff to search for Bob's shooter, they go to the outlaws' shack. From his hiding place just outside, Bob sees Longknife sneak up on Jake and take aim at him with his bow and arrow. Bob shoots Longknife, after which he and Jake go to the hideout. Jake finds the sheriff, who draws his gun when Jake tells him that he shot Longknife in self-defense. Bob uses his whip to knock the pistol out of the sheriff's hand, then begins punching him. The sheriff finally confesses to Bob and Jake his part in the gang and warns them that the next wagon train raid will begin in a few hours. While they wait for the braves to gather at the hideout, the sheriff is about to name the gang's leader, when he is killed by an unseen assailant. Meanwhile, Indians have gathered outside the shack and begin shooting flaming arrows to set the roof on fire. Bob sneaks out through the back door, comes around behind the shooter and, after exposing him as the gang's boss, William Welch, the Indian agent, arrests him. In town, Harrison praises Bob and Jake for busting up the gang, after which Bob and Jake say farewell.
