Synopsis

Mining engineer Joe Henderson learns from fatally wounded prospector Braffert that Joe's brother Bob and their friend, Andy Walker, have been killed near their gold mine. On his way into town to find his brother's killers, Joe informs Dorothy Walker of her father's death, then takes her to the ranch of his friends, Lem and Edna Fielding, for her own safety. In town at the Royal Flush Saloon, Joe boldly announces he is looking for his brother's killers. The murderers, Red Clinton, Tiger Cain and Mustang, ambush Joe after he leaves town. The engineer is able to fight off the outlaws until the sheriff's posse arrives to rescue him. The murderers, however, escape and return to their cabin hideout in the nearby mountains. Meanwhile, while Lem is bear hunting, he comes across a rich gold strike. After stuffing his saddlebags full of gold, the excited Lem falls off his horse, rendering him senseless. He is discovered by Red, Tiger and Mustang, who take him back to their hideout. They question the rancher as to the location of the gold strike, but the stunned Lem thinks he is a Confederate soldier in the Civil War and incoherently babbles on about military secrets and war maneuvers. Thinking that his sister may know the location of the gold, Red and Tiger go to Edna, telling her that Lem has been injured and awaits her in their cabin. When Edna realizes the two men's true intentions, she breaks free and rides her horse down a hazardous slide with the outlaws in full pursuit. In the meantime, Dorothy tells Joe about Edna leaving with the two men; thus, while Dorothy rides into town to summon the sheriff, Joe follows the outlaws' trail back to their hideout. Joe captures Mustang, but has little luck pacifying Lem, who thinks Joe is a Union soldier. When Red and Tiger return to the cabin, Joe is successful in disarming them, only to have Lem jump on his back to protect his "Confederates." In the ensuing fight, Joe manages to capture the outlaws once again, just as Edna, Dorothy and the sheriff arrive. In the battle, Lem is knocked unconscious, and when he awakens, he is back to his old self. He tells his sister of his rich gold strike, one that will make them rich and allow him to hunt bear every day.
