Synopsis
After she receives a threatening note, Rita Lowry and her young brother Sunny, rush to the church to warn Parson Reeves, only to find him already dead. Steve Hanson, who is in love with Rita, and Jim Lynch, a government investigator masquerading as a tramp, are concerned about the influx of strangers into the area. That evening, while Steve is having dinner with Rita and Sunny, Jake Wagner visits the ranch to inform Rita that her father signed over a bill of sale to him and she must leave her home. Although Rita protests that her father barely knew Wagner, she cannot deny that his signature is on the paper. Rita tells Steve that she suspects Wagner is involved in Reeves's murder. Later, Steve and Jim investigate the church, finding a trap door that leads to Wagner's office. In order to end Steve's investigation, Wagner decides to kill him. He sends Peter Starr after Steve with a warrant for his arrest. Steve runs away and, when Starr shoots him, pretends to be dead. Wagner then has Steve's signature forged on some papers which would give him possession of Steve's ranch. Jim suspects that the forgeries are the work of Sam Carson, who is now using the name Sam Leavitt. Rita suggests a plan to lure Wagner to Steve's ranch, where he is hiding. Wagner falls for her plan and Steve is just about to capture Wagner and Starr when Sunny unwittingly reveals his hiding place. Wagner rides away followed by Steve and Jim, who then sneak into Wagner's office through the church tunnel. Meanwhile, Steve's men ride into town and engage Wagner's men in a shootout. Now that the town is rid of criminals, Rita and Steve share a kiss.
