Synopsis

Steve Halliday proposes to Celia, but she is afraid that her grandfather, rancher Gonzales, will not approve of the marriage. After Gonzales receives a threatening note demanding the family jewels, his friend, Sandy Hopkins, sends for Nevada McKenzie, a U.S. Marshal. Sandy and Nevada wait for the sheriff in Sandy's cabin, and there, they discover the sheriff's body. Back at the ranch, three masked men, Dutch and his partners, Pepper and deputy sheriff Spike, demand that Gonzales give them the jewels. Before he can reveal their hiding place, Gonzales is murdered by Dutch. Steve chases the killers, but they escape after shooting him. Celia and José, a ranch hand, then take Steve to town for medical care. Meanwhile, Nevada befriends Doc Bowles, who has been thrown out of the saloon. Elsewhere in the saloon, Dutch, Pepper and Spike report to their boss, Steve's uncle, John Halliday, the owner of the land and water company. Then Celia and José bring the unconscious Steve into the saloon, so that Doc can take care of his wounds. Meanwhile, at the ranch, Sandy discovers that Gonzales has been killed. After Steve regains consciousness, Spike arrests Nevada for the murders. Later, Doc helps Nevada escape from jail. Nevada then rides out to the hacienda and arrives in time to stop Halliday's men from killing José and Sandy. Nevada forces Spike to jail Pepper for trying to kill him, and suggests that Sandy should be jailed for murdering Gonzales. In jail, Sandy pretends to be an outlaw and befriends Pepper, but before Pepper can reveal the name of the gang leader, he is killed. Steve, who does not know that his uncle is the head of the gang, tells Halliday that Nevada is a U.S. Marshal. Later, José brings the jewels to Halliday for safekeeping. Halliday kills him, but is unable to get rid of the body before Nevada arrives and arrests him. With the jewels safe, Celia marries a recovered Steve.
